Eugene Edouard Lemire was born in Legal, Ab. on July 30, 1918 and accompanied his parents to Falher in 1920 where he attended Falher School till the age of 15. He followed his brother Robert to Girouxville to clear some land and in 1936 Eugene bought a homestead. During the summers the brothers cleared land and in the winter they cut firewood which they hauled by sleigh, pulled by horses, to their father’s property in Falher. In the spring the logs were sawed with a gas engine, split and sold during the summer.
Eugene married Lucille Sylvain on April2, 1945. To survive on the farm they raised cattle and pigs. The cream money provided the family with the few provisions which were lacking and the sale of hogs helped pay the “brush cutters” hired to clear more land.
Eugene passed away July 1, 2007 and is interred at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Roman Catholic Cemetery in Girouxville, Ab.
