Second son of Dave and Eva Funk, born in Saskatchewan, Jack had 2 brothers who also served in WW II – Albert and Jim. Other two siblings were Mabel and Fred. After filing on a homestead in Wanham AB in fall of 1927, his father Dave moved his family by rail from Saskatchewan to Wanham in April 1928. Jack and his older brother, Albert, rode in the box car with some of the farm implements, household belongings, and animals. Dave rented a cabin for the family before he sent for Eva, his mother, and Mabel to come. The three younger siblings, Jack, Jim, and Mabel attended school in Wanham. Their father organized a new school named West Vale, a while later. Jack joined the forces during WW II, first being stationed in Vancouver BC and then serving in the Aleutians. In 1951 Jack moved to Maple Ridge BC. His younger brother Jim and family also moved there, and their parents Dave and Eva also moved to the BC lower mainland.
