Fisher, Marion Alexander

Regiment: Calgary Highlanders
Regimental Number: M104859

Marion Fisher, son of Alexander and Esther Fisher and sister to Alice, was born in 1908. The family moved to the Peace Country around 1927, and they lived east of Grande Prairie. (One source states that Marion came the Bezanson area from Nanton AB).   Esther (mother) died around 1934.  During WW II, Marion served with the Calgary Highlanders, being posted overseas.  When he was discharged in 1945, he returned to Canada.  In the early 1950s, Marion and his father moved to the Eaglesham district where they homesteaded together. Sadly, his father died in 1953.  Active in community sports in both Bezanson and Eaglesham, Marion played hockey and baseball, and was also an avid curler and golfer.  He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion of the Eaglesham branch.  After retiring from farming in 1973, he suffered a lengthy illness.  He passed away at the Red Deer General Hospital while visiting relatives, on January 19, 1974, at age 65.  Interment was at the Eaglesham Cemetery.
