Stanley was born in Kansas City on June 18, 1896. He came to Canada with his parents in 1901 and settled near Stettler, Alberta. In February 1916, Stanley enlisted in the Canadian army. He received shrapnel wounds to his legs and left hand in August of 1917 and was invalided to England. Stanley attended the School of Cookery in London in April of 1918. Twice he went AWOL – thirteen days in December of 1918, and again in May of 1919. He was arrested in London. Stanley married Sophie on October 30, 1923. The couple moved to the Valleyview area in 1936, but left in 1944 and moved to High Prairie. Stanley died on October 1, 1970.
