Northern Star Lodge #126 Rebekah Assembly of Alberta. — 1962-1978. — 4 cm.
The Northern Star Lodge #126 was created by a meeting held in Grande Prairie Masonic Lodge on February 16, 1962, with the Rebekah Busy Bee Branch #79 of Spirit River officiating. The Institution of the Lodge was conducted with the Assembly President, Sister Eve Douglas presiding. Assisting her were Assembly Vice-President, Margaret Nixon, and Sister Helen Pickering and Sister Eve Hogg both from Busy Bee Rebekah Lodge #79. Twenty-one members were instituted; four of these with withdrawal cards from other lodges were Sister Cobb, Sister Thompson, Sister Melvin, and Sister Morris. All twenty-one members then signed the register, making them charter members. The officers elected for the coming term were Sister Florence Bishop, Noble Grand; Sister Clare Thompson, Vice Grand; Sister Janet Morris, Recording Secretary; Sister Dorothy Leatham, Financial Secretary; and Sister Rose Hnatiuk, Treasurer. Other officers included Warden, Sister Elizabeth Turner; Conductress, Sister Isabel Day; Chaplain, Sister Martha Melvin; Musician, Sister Lorene Hughes; Color Bearer, Sister Lola Ditch, R.S.N.G., Sister Isabel Raison; L.S.N.G., Sister Doris Draper; R.S.V.G, Sister May Tissington; L.S.V.G., Sister Jean Malarchuk; Inside Guardian, Brother Frank Turner; Outside Guardian, Brother Charlie Stredulinsky. Noble Grand, Sister Florence Bishop was presented with a Bible to be used by the newly instituted lodge. The Northern Star Lodge performed community service through working at blood donor clinics, lazy eye clinics, raising money through auction teas, rummage sales and bake sales and visiting members who were ill. They organized events that also involved the Odd Fellows such as picnics and card parties. By November, 1978, the membership had dropped and the group found it difficult to hold meetings. They made a motion to disband as of Dec 31, 1978. At that meeting a motion was made to donate the rest of their funds to the Grande Prairie Hospital.
The records were donated to the South Peace Regional Archives by Rebekah Assembly of Alberta I.O.O.F. representatives, Dorothy O’Donnell, President, and Darlene Clemmer, Assembly Secretary, in 2012.
