Administrative history / Biographical sketch
The earliest records of the Bear Creek Mutual Telephone Co. records a list of 11 member stock holders. Members were responsible for maintenance of their own lines and much of the business of the company had to do with the acquiring and replacing tamarack poles for the main line. Each shareholder paid a levy determined by the company, a rental fee and any toll fees for calls beyond their line.
Custodial history
These records originated from Isabel Campbell’s reference files which were acquired from the Grande Prairie Public Library in 2013. These materials were part of a bequest by Isabel Campbell to the Library. The files were then donated to the archives in 2013.
Scope and content
The collection consists of registration of the company signed by Clubine, Cook, Drysdale, MacTavish, Crerar, Lays, Pivert, Partlow, and Morrison; correspondence, agreements, Certificate of Incorporation, and minutes.
The records are copies with the originals held at the Provincial Archives of Alberta 73.310
