Administrative history / Biographical sketch
Arthur William Threw was born in 1885 in Ontario and was married twice, his first wife was Hannah and in the 1930’s he married Evelyn. Arthur, his wife and children Walter, Erica, Lily and Bessie moved to Grande Prairie and their son Stan was born there.
Art ran a Second Hand Furniture and Auction store and in 1943 purchased the Sharp block in order to expand. Art was also chairman of the Grande Prairie Salvage Committee which collected rags and rubber during WWII. Arthur passed away on November 12, 1965 and his wife Evelyn on November 27, 1975, they are both buried in the Grande Prairie Cemetery.
Custodial history
The photographs were collected by Evelyn Mae Thew and deposited at the Archives by her son Stan in August 2015.
Scope and content
The collection consists of 17 photographs of Grande Prairie including parades, a rubber drive, Frank Donald’s funeral, Alaska Highway machinery, and aircraft.
