Administrative history / Biographical sketch
The Eaglesham & District Agricultural Society was approved under the Agricultural Societies Act for the Province of Alberta on March 22, 1971. There were 53 charter members. At the first meeting on April 27, 1971 the executive elected was Ted Campbell, President; Allan Alying, Vice-President; Ann Larson, Second Vice-President; Hazel Hartman, Secretary-Treasurer; and nine directors. They purchased a fairgrounds and erected exhibit and fair buildings as they had opportunity. The site also included a race track, a ball field, and later a BMX track. They received their charter as a Class D fair in 1975, which was advanced in 1988 to a Class C fair. In 1989 a campsite and upgraded parking was added to the fairgrounds, and the playgrounds for both children and adults improved. Besides its own activities, the Ag Society supported many community events and projects in Eaglesham, Tangent, and the Central Peace.
