Administrative history / Biographical sketch
The Grande Prairie Rural Crime Watch Association is part of the Alberta Provincial Rural Crime Watch which was formed as a joint co-operative movement between volunteers in various communities, the Attorney-General’s office, the Alberta Farmers’ Advocate’s office and the RCMP. The group first stated meeting in 1983 and was registered in 1984. It strives to promote rural crime prevention through communication, programs, and fund raising. In the Grande Prairie area there were originally six zones: 1. Sexsmith, 2. Teepee Creek, 3.Wembley, 4. Bezanson, 5. Grovedale, and 6. DeBolt. Grovedale has since formed their own organization which means there is no longer a zone 5 Grande Prairie Rural Crime Watch Association. Members initially paid $5.00 a year for the service. Custodial history
The first accession was donated to the South Peace Regional Archives in 2010 by Gordon Mackey who had been the president of Grande Prairie Rural Crime Watch Association. Mackey donated more records in 2014. Irene Gitzel, a member of the association, donated financial records in 2014.
Scope and content
This fonds contains records created by the Grande Prairie Rural Crime Watch Association. It primarily consists of membership information, meeting minutes, and financial records.
This fonds has been divided into four series: Membership (1980-2009), Meetings (1997-2004, 2009), Financials (1981-2009), and Alberta Provincial Rural Crime Watch Association (1997, 2003).
