Administrative history / Biographical sketch
The Spirit Valley School was built around 1919-1920. Some of the trustees during the 1930s included Eugene Dion, Mr. F.S. Leeks, Vernon Pockett, E.G. Cox, L. Peacock, Mrs. I Young, and Joseph Gagnon. Some of the teachers were Mrs. Barr, Mrs. Jack Peacock, Miss Sylvia Grimm, Ross Archibald, Miss Edith Thompson, Evela Walker, Mr. Broadbent, Marg Chamberlain, Mr. Allan McDougall, Mr. Jack Lewis, Miss Ginger LeVern, Mrs. Moore, Bertha Mean, Mrs. Packer-Norden, Mrs. Pat McBride and Miss Babs Rentiers, Muriel Schumacher, Bibiane Rentiers, Elinor Hamilton, and Verna Elofson. Mr. and Mrs. Durkin were janitors for many years. The school closed in 1944-45. In February, 1960, the school was sold to Happy Valley community to be used on their sports grounds as a hall.
Custodial history
The records were preserved and given to the Spirit River School Division No. 47 sometime after it was formed in 1940. Peace Wapiti School Division assumed responsibility for this division in 1994 and the records were deposited in the Grande Prairie Regional Archives in 2003.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of a minute book from 1932-1940 and 3 Daily Registers from 1940-1943. A 1939 insurance policy for the school and contents is included in the minute book.
