Administrative history / Biographical sketch
Birch Hills Historical Society was formed circa 1976 . Through the efforts of chairperson Adelaide Zmean and society members, a grant was obtained from the New Horizons program to publish a history on the Wanham area. Editor Wallace Tansem and editorial committee members took on the long task of writing and preparing material. “Grooming the Grizzly, A History of Wanham and Area”, was printed in June 1982.
Custodial history
Records donated to the archives by Wally Tansem, editor of Grooming the Grizzly, in 2000.
Scope and content
The fonds consist of a collection of historical photographs, maps personal papers, and business receipts which were gathered for the publication. Many of the illustrations in Grooming the Grizzly were returned to their owners, and are therefore not in this collection; on the other hand historical documents which were never incorporated into the publication, are part of this collection.
