Feist, William Edward “Ted”

Force:  Air Force

Ted Feist was born in Macleod AB on September 16, 1919, the son of William and Emma Feist who lived in Nanton AB.  In 1927. He moved with his parents and sisters to Wembley. The rail car from Nanton to Wembley carried all their household furnishings, a Model T Ford card, and eight goats. Ted attended school in Wembley but left school in 1935 to help his father on the farm.  In 1936 Ted started his own service station named “Ted’s Service”.  Leaving his business in 1940, he took a Technical course in airframe mechanics in Calgary, and trained for the R.C.A.F. which he joined in January 1941. He served in England, North Africa, and Italy. In November 1944, Ted married Margaret (“Peggy”) Chapman in Hertfordshire, England.  After his discharge, Ted returned to Wembley with Peggy, and they farmed. Two sons, Tony and Dean were born in 1945 and 1946.  Unfortunately their farm had six bad years of crops. In 1950, Ted was appointed Postmaster and he and Peggy operated the post office in Wembley until 1953. Their third son, Stephen, was born in 1952. Sometime thereafter the family moved to Streetsville ON, where their youngest son Robert was born in 1960.  Ted was employed at Douglas Aircraft.  Tragically, their son, Dean, was killed in a plane crash in the Yukon in 1973.   By the time Ted’s father passed away in 1986, Ted and Peggy were living in Qualicum Beach, BC. Ted was a life-time member of the Lake Saskatoon Masonic Lodge #10 in Wembley, and the Royal Canadian Legion #76 in Qualicum Beach.  After a lengthy illness, Ted passed away on November 1, 2010.
