Once again we turn to an advertisement for this week’s item. This ad for Ford vehicles uses the need to increase food production during war times as it’s “hook”. While the figures may be correct, it doesn’t really get into the practicalities of having a car instead of horses when it comes to actual farm work, such as plowing, seeding, threshing, etc. It’s kind of amusing to picture a car pulling a seeder across a plowed field!
It’s interesting that right next to this Ford ad, is an equal-sized one for draft horses. And 15 years later there were two ads in the same “Swap and Barter” section of the classified ads, offering to trade Ford cars for horses.
