A piece in the Local News column states that “the calibre of a town or country is first judged by the appearance of its local paper.” This is a bit of a sweeping statement, and I wonder if it refers to the new paper in town, The Signal, which started publishing October 1, 1914. The Herald Editor goes on to tell of his high quality ink and paper, and improvements to the inking process. He is either pointing out that his paper is of a higher quality than The Signal, or making improvements to keep up!
