The 1928 equivalent of a spoiler alert seems to be don’t tell and don’t watch! Patrons arriving before the end of the movie were asked not to watch, which seems almost silly. It would have been simpler not to let them in. This movie was a silent horror film, whose plot revolved around a series of murders committed by a man in an ape suit. Pretty tame stuff compared with what is on the screen today. One assumes this was more in the nature of publicity gimmick than a serious request.
