Dominion of Canada. — 62 maps.Maps produced by the Dominion of Canada for Northwestern Alberta fall mainly in three categories: the Geological Survey, the Dominion Land Survey, and the Department of the Interior. In 1930, the responsibility for crown land was handed over to the Province of Alberta. The earliest maps were created by explorers such as George Dawson to show the location of rivers and lakes and where resources might be located. Later the Dominion Land Survey divided the land into sections and quarters and created maps to show where trails, water were located. |

2014 copy (printed on foamcore) of 1914 topographical map titled “Edmonton, Dunvegan, and BC Railroad Land Seekers Map”. Copyrighted in Canada by C.G. Mundy, 1914 and stamped “Compliments of The Peace River Land And Development Company Ltd. (305-306 Moser-Ryder Building in Edmonton), General Agents for Edmonton, Dunvegan & British Columbia Railway Townsites. The map covers northwestern Alberta and northeastern British Columbia, from Edmonton to Ft. McLeod. It shows the proposed routes for the Canadian Northern Railway, the E.D. & B.C. Railway, and the Central Canada Railway; the Grande Prairie, Peace River, Peace River Block, and Edmonton Land Districts; Forest Reserves; notations regarding the soil, land and resources; and established communities in the area. Original found by Barbara Stanich in cabin on their land in White Mountain area, originally ownded by Ben McKenzie. The original was heavily damaged by water stains and missing pieces.

Telegraph Line from Grande Prairie to Dawson Creek, 1953

Blueprint for the cable wiring out of the telegraph line from the Grande Prairie Repeater Station west towards Dawson Creek in 1953. Created by Canadian National Telegraph and the Northwest Communications System, Department of Transport in 1953. Blueprint is accompanied by a diagram showing the route of the telegraph from the Admin Bldg at the Edmonton Airport to Alaska and the Yukon. Donor was the last wire chief for the Alaska highway telegraph and teletype service. He worked for the Canadian National Telegraph, the CNCP, and Unitel.

Development Companies. — [1970-1990].Early in the settlement process, entrepreneurs formed land development companies and produced settlement literature which included maps. This included companies such as the Canadian Pacific Railway. Other companies involved in the resource sector, such as Proctor & Gamble, also produced their own maps. |

Road Maps. — 11 maps.Official Highway Guides were produced by the Province of Alberta to show highways and roads built by the Department of Transportation. Road maps were also produced by car and gas companies to encourage travel. These were sold at garages. Later maps were also produced by Tourism Departments. |

The reverse side shows images from the area including the Dunvegan Bridge and mission, Sturgeon Lake, Grande Prairie’s Reservoir and outdoor swimming pool, Kinuso Falls, the Beaverlodge Research Station, and 12′ Davis statue. Various slogans and titles appear on the front: “See Northern Alberta”, “The Scenic Land of the Mighty Peace”, “Land of the Midnight Twilight”, and “Gateway to the Yukon, Alaska, and the Great Northwest.”

The Edson to Grande Prairie Trail, 2011

Map published for the 100th Anniversary of the Edson Trail in 2011. The map, titled “The Edson to Grande Prairie Trail Built by the Government of Alberta in 1911” is a modern topographical view of the area between Edson and Grande Cache on the south and Valleyview and Grande Prairie on the north. The map shows the route of the Edson Trail, stopping places and river crossings, as well as modern day roads and communities. This map is a folded insert in the booklet, “Historical Maps of the Peace No. 1, The Edson Trail, 1911-1916.”
