This article from page 1 of the July 10, 1917 paper mentioned how many marriages had taken place recently. and the expectation that there would be many more before the snow fell. These comments were followed by a letter received by the Mayor, asking him to act as a marriage broker, not a duty usually expected from a local politician. The description of the “nice girl” seen by the farmer was pretty vague, and I wonder if the Mayor was able to help the young farmer find a wife.
