Ranger Paul Lambert and 11 Indians fought a serious fire on the Smoky River near Lambert Creek for 16 days, “four of which they were without grub. One horse and a lot of supplies were lost in the river or destroyed by fire.” Rumour was that those responsible for the fire were known and would be brought to justice.
