Administrative history / Biographical sketch
Johann Jacob Gossen and his wife Helena (nee Friesen) left their home in Landskrone, Molotschna, South Russia, and travelled to Acme, Alberta in 1925. With them were their five daughters, Helena (born 1911), Sarah (born 1912), Katerina (born 1914), twins Kornelia and Elizabeth (born 1915), and son, Johann. Along with several other Mennonites, including Cornelius Toews, Gerhard Jacob Wiens, Jacob Epp, Abraham Funk, Abraham Kathler, Abraham Friesen, Jacob Franz, Jacob Berg, Henry Sukkau, Jacob D. Nickel, Herman Wall, John Goerzen, Peter Friesen, and A. Regier, Johann Gossen purchased property on the Adair Ranch (also known at Sunset Ranch) at Wembley.
Custodial history
The records were donated in 2011 in two accessions by Donald Norrie, grandson of Johann and Helena Gossen.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of the land purchase agreement between John Gossen and the Adair Ranching Company, copies of four photographs taken on the Adair Ranch, and the wedding photograph of Joseph Mervin Jasbec and Sarah Gossen.

The house had a sod roof and a dirt floor, which Johann replaced with a proper wood floor. From l-r: Helen (b 1911), Sarah (b 1912), Katherine (b 1914), Kornelia and Elizabeth, the twins (b 1915). All born in Landskrone, Molotschna, South Russia. Family immigrated to Canada in October 1925. |
