Lloyd Finch was born on June 27, 1925 in Wembley AB. His parents were George “Slim” (originally from Texas USA) and Fern Finch. Lloyd attended school in Flying Shot Lake, finishing in 1938. On January 10, 1942 he married Mary Cameron who he met in Flying Shot Lake. At age 19 he joined the Army (from 1944 to 1945), although he did no active service. Mary and Lloyd had 4 sons: Tom, Bob, Bill and Jim, and 2 daughters Linda and Irene. Lloyd was a mixed farmer and logger for many years, but when cattle prices dropped in the 1970s and 1980s, he started an abattoir operation. Soon after that, he and his son Jim started a sleigh ride business, and joined the Draft Horse Club. He won many trophies and ribbons, as well as winning the Alberta Pulling Championships for 2 years. Mary passed away in March 2007, and Lloyd died on September 6, 2014 at age 89 in Grande Prairie.
