Agency History

Story Gathering was a project of the Arts, Edcation and Commerce Department of the Grande Prairie Regional College which began in 2002 with a vision of honouring and preserving the unwritten stories of the aboriginal people of the Peace River Region. Importance was placed on respecting the integrity of the peoples and their cultures. Stories were recorded at a gathering at the Dunvegan. Historical campsite in May, 2004, at the traditional Beaver site No. 152.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of 3 audio cassettes and 2 – 8 mm video tape cassettes. Participants whose stories were recorded were Shirley Plante, Valleyview; Kathleen Evans, Fairview; Henry McAllister, Hines Creek; Michael David, Valleyview; Donna Cummings, Fairview; and Frederick (Dave) Cummings, Fairview.

“Story Gathering” was an event organized by the Arts, Education and Commerce Department of the Grande Prairie Regional College.
