A group of community people from the East Smoky area – Andy Rieger, Luke Dwyer, Bill Chapman, Harvey Pellerin, Marvin Moore, John Nielsen and Roy Bickell – suggested the formation of the East Smoky Recreation Board and at a public meeting March 21, 1968, the Board was formed. In 1975, an office was set up in the Debolt Centennial Hall and Dawne Klassen was the coordinator. A newsletter was published giving news from the area’s clubs and recreation groups. A 1978 master plan outlined many recommendations for future projects and facilities and the 1991 master plan looked at the all the needs of the community for programming and facilities.
The records were donated to the DeBolt Museum and then transferred to the South Peace Regional Archives in 2006.
